Brian Grant's Shake It Till We Make It Success

By make it better Posted in: briangrant, makeitbetter

A star-studded red carpet, phenomenal music and funds raised for a more than worthy cause.

For the third year in a row the Brian Grant Foundation transformed the Rose Garden into the incredible Shake It Till We Make It! Celebrity Dinner Gala to raise funds to support the fight against Parkinson’s Disease.

Aldis Hodge, of the popular television show Leverage and a friend of Grant’s, hosted the  evening through circus performers, comedian Dwight Slade and finally a keynote presentation and silent auction.

While the annual event often follows a similar docket, each year a new component is added to aid in the fight against Parkinson’s. “It’s evolved for us,” Grant said. “Whereas the first year was a coming out party to honor Michael J. Fox and really give a lot of money toward research. Last year was our coming out party and announcing our website and this year we’re moving forward by revealing our programming that we’re going to start here in the Portland area.”

“It’s been well received. The first year and last year there weren’t a lot of Parkinson’s patients that really attended the event, so this year, Friday we had a workshop that we actually put on here at the Rose Garden and we had 47 people show up. We’re gonna start doing more things like that throughout the community.”

Supporting Grant, a Trail Blazer from 1997-2000, was a no-brainer for the Trail Blazers family and the make it better foundation who donated to the cause and provided the Rose Garden facility and assisted in planning of the beautiful evening.

“Brian was a former player here and a beloved player here,” Larry Miller, former President of the Trail Blazers said. “He was one of the favorites of the fans here and when he finished playing he decided to come back to Portland to live and I think we’re fortunate to have him back here in this community and so the fact that he’s a part of the family, the fact that it’s a great cause and it’s something that not only is he fighting for but he’s experiencing, there’s no way we wouldn’t, as an organization, support Brian in his efforts.

The red carpet saw former Trail Blazers Jerome Kersey, Chris Dudley, Martell Webster, Detlef Schrempf, former Head Coach P.J. Carlesimo and founder Harry Glickman walk to endorse the cause of their friend.

“I think it’s amazing, using the disease that he has and making a statement with it to try to make some change,” Webster said “It all goes to a great cause so you can’t complain about that, but the fact that he has it, it’s not like one of those types of people who’s like ‘Oh, yeah I have a foundation and I’m kinda behind the scenes.’ No, he is seen. He is the face and that’s very important. That shows that he really cares and he’s really passionate about it.”
